Charging Phone Plans

Just 10 years ago the point of a telephone was to just make calls; how many of us really use the phone to actually talk on them? With monthly telephone prices, including voice, text and data, prices are too high, even if you can afford it.

According to my last cellphone bill, last month I only used 94 minutes of my unlimited plan, even less in text messages at 86. Suddenly that nice title of unlimited talk and text doesn’t sound all that appealing.

So why is an unlimited plan for talk and text average $50 a month when I barely use it? Doesn’t seem fair does it. Well to be honest, the reason I accept these terms is due to the unlimited data that comes with my plan. At $30 a month, it doesn’t seem too bad, at least compared to “per Gig usage charges”.

That’s why we have services out there, like Ting, that offer pay as you go plans, which could end up saving you hundreds of dollars per year, depending on how much you use each of the 3 types of connection (phone, text and data).

Up until now, Ting has been the only alternative, at least in my radar, for smart phone usage. But a new phone company has been getting attention recently with their new unlimited text and data phone plans. Charge was once known as an app company that offered SMS (text) services, similar to WhatsApp. Now they offer $10 unlimited text and data and a $20 per month plan that adds unlimited voice.

What sets them apart is the fact that once prices drop even further, which they are claiming they will, they will automatically drop your rates, unlike other phone providers that you have to call and argue to get a lower bill.

Prices aren’t that low if you add the amount you need and of course their data plan is per Gig. But it is another option to look at in the future once they are more established. Currently they will be offering their services through Sprint’s network, including the iPhone. Check it out at charge.co.
