With 2017 just around the corner we once again come with the realization that we haven’t achieved our resolutions for 2016! Just like the year before, we now promise to try again and that this year will be different. So, what to do? You could sign up for a gym or promise yourself you’ll eat your veggies more often. But instead of jumping in full of excitement that will most likely die down in a few weeks of hating it, why not start out slow? Why not yoga?

Now before you stop reading this article, hear me out! Yoga isn’t just for athletes, flexible people, young people or even skinny people. It’s for everyone who is willing to better themselves not only physically but mentally as well. I speak from experience, as a man in his mid-twenties who started to take up yoga not too long ago, I can say that it has helped me out at the gym and with my daily stress; my breathing is easier, I feel calmer and I can now even touch my toes! And no, I was not a natural, I struggled a lot the first week but it did get easier. If you give it a serious shot it could be the inspiration you need to finally get active and achieve this coming years resolution promise.

Now for the tech portion of this class I will recommend the website that I got started with: http://www.doyouyoga.com/ which has a few programs for beginners such as the one I took, “The Men’s 30 Day Challenge”. If that doesn’t suit your needs there’s always a quick YouTube search for beginner’s yoga class for men, or women.

Now before you can say no for whatever reasons, here are 2 that I can answer for you:

-Aviso-

You don’t have a Yoga Mat or clothes? No problem, the mat and the clothes were just a marketing ploys and aren’t needed. How about that you are not flexible? Again, like I mentioned above, no problem! Give it a shot and you’ll see that there’s no need to be flexible from the start, even if it is embarrassing for you.

So start out the new year a little different by trying something new rather than repeating the same mistakes from last year.
