The county executive reminds that the suspension of the sales tax on household energy costs is already in effect

Westchester County Executive George Latimer reminds residents to check their heating bill to make sure the county sales tax collection on household energy costs from December 1 to February 28 is being met. has been suspended from your bill. The sales tax suspension covers home heating oil, propane, natural gas, electricity, coal, and wood for residential heating purposes and covers homeowners as well as rental units .
“Westchester County government is constantly looking for ways to make life a little easier for residents. This winter, heating your home has cost you a little less, and we want to make sure you get the full impact of this sales tax suspension. As we all face rising costs in our daily lives, this suspension of certain sales taxes will add additional dollars to the wallets of those who call Westchester home,” said Westchester County Executive George Latimer.
The county share is 4%; however, residents of Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, White Plains, and Yonkers will see a 1.5% reduction as these cities have their own sales tax.
Owners and renters will be eligible based on the structure of the unit’s heat and electric use. The initiative is administered by the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance; sellers will not assess sales tax as directed by the State. Sales tax will be automatically deducted from the invoice.
This measure adds to the list of actions taken by the Latimer Administration and the Board of Legislators to combat rising inflationary costs across the country, the county said in a statement. Those actions, ordered by Latimer, include capping sales tax on gasoline purchases, waiving fees at certain parks and pools and, most notably, suspending fees on Bee-Line buses.
