The Ecuadorian community of Westchester celebrated the cry of their country’s independence, with several events, being the raising of the tricolor flag in Yonkers, the most formal and historic ceremony.

The ceremony held on Wednesday, August 10, was organized by the Yonkers City Council, the majority leader, Councilwoman Tasha Díaz, together with the Assemblywoman for Ecuadorians abroad, Mónica Palacios.

The historic event was in recognition of the population of Ecuadorian origin in this city, and its contribution to the economy of Yonkers.
The councilwoman of Ecuadorian origin, Karine Patiño, from Mount Kisco, was present, and said she felt motivated and inspired that she pay tribute to Ecuador, where her parents were born.

The municipal council delivered a proclamation to Assemblywoman Mónica Palacios in recognition of her work in favor of Ecuadorians abroad.
In this way, Yonkers, its elected officials and the community, commemorated the 213 years of the First Cry of Independence of the Republic of Ecuador, the libertarian action of August 10, 1809, carried out in Quito.
