When I got into the corporate world one of the first things I noticed right away was the famous corporate cell phones that are given to most employees. When I got to order mine, at the time the iPhone 5C, I didn’t want to be a burden to my manager so I ordered the 16GB one. But when I talked to some people they told me that I should have gone for at least the 32GB model; because the bigger storage means more processing power, in their words.
Fast forward to the release of the new iPhone 7 I can now see that my fellow employees were correct! The only problem is that Apple decided to do this on purpose and not for the reasons I was told in the past.
The problem, which has been tested and confirmed, is that Apple decided not to give their best effort to the lower capacity models of their new iPhone 7; which I mean they most likely went cheaper on the 32GB storage hardware compared to the 128GB and higher.
For the average user this may not be a big deal and you may not even notice entirely. I’ve seen some tests online when they try to copy over a 4GB movie to a computer and the 32GB model takes an average extra minute to load compared the 128GB and higher. One minute extra may not seem like much, but if you are a heavy user that takes pictures and movies among other things, that time can add up.
So what does this mean for you the consumer? If you’re looking to get a new iPhone at a cheap price tag, go for the 6 or 6S model at 32GB or even 16GB if you feel you won’t have much to store. The 6 and 6S are still great phones, I have a 6S Plus and never once wanted to upgrade to the 7. Now I have even more reason not to.
With the headphone jack removed for selfish reasons, you know if you read the last tech-class article, and now this, Apple is starting to become a less favorable manufacturer of goods than ever before. As a self proclaimed Apple Fan-boy, I may go Microsoft when my next update is due.
