This November, Westchester residents, and all residents across the state, have the opportunity to vote on Proposition 1: New York’s Clean Water, Clean Air and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act. If approved, the proposition would allow New York State to borrow up to $4.2 billion to be used to enhance and restore New York’s natural resources while reducing the impacts of climate change.

As part of the democratic process, County Executive George Latimer is urging residents to remember to “Flip It” and look at both sides of your ballot when you vote this November.

“While we are not defending how you vote, it is vital that you make your voice heard and vote. It’s easy to miss this referendum on the back of your ballot, so when you vote this year remember to turn it over,” Latimer said.

County Director of Energy and Sustainability Peter McCartt said, “Our planet is facing a crisis like we’ve never seen and the results of this vote will have a huge impact on our State’s response. Turn it around. Vote. Make your voice heard.”

Earlier this month, the Westchester County Board of Freeholders passed a resolution in support of the Bond Act.

If the referendum passes, the $4.2 billion Bond Act will fund restoration and flood risk reduction, climate change mitigation, open space conservation and recreation, and improved water quality and resilient infrastructure.
