The Peekskill councilor, Ramón Fernández, received in this city the president of the Electoral Board of the Dominican Republic, Román Andrés Jáquez Liranzo, whom he requested on behalf of his community to open an Electoral College.

“The president of the JCE has come to visit our community and the Mobile Operation has also been carried out, so important to facilitate procedures for Dominicans. And it fills us with pride and satisfaction because the Dominican community is trying to set up an Electoral College here,” said Councilman Fernández.

It should be noted that for this consular and electoral event, Dominicans who hold important positions in politics and business mobilized to give their support to the request of their Dominican community.

“The presence of many Dominicans who have arrived from Peekskill, Cortlandt, Ossining and who are registering. This helps to create the Electoral College and to bring back the local Mobile Operation”, explained the councilor.

Although Fernández supports his community of origin as well, he does not want to focus his work exclusively on Dominican politics and contributes to institutional relations.

“Our contribution is institutional, but in the 2020 elections, together with Congressman Adriano Espaillat, when they wanted to prohibit the Dominican vote abroad, we asked that the Dominican right to vote be fulfilled, which is stipulated in the constitution, and we managed to eliminate the pretext of COVID”, said Fernández.

On this occasion, Councilman Fernández was the spokesman for Congressman Espaillat, and during his participation he made reference to the three positions of deputies they represent abroad, and the importance of subdividing them into Districts where there is more representativeness, because the largest number of registered Dominicans are in New York City and Bronx County.

“It is important that the representation be subdivided to really serve the Dominican community,” said Fernández, in his capacity as spokesman for Espaillat, since the congressman was out of the country.
