“We thank the mayor and the Fire Department for making this donation and allowing our families to celebrate Thanksgiving beautifully,” said Isabel Villar, CEO of Centro Hispano Inc.

The White Plains Fire Union is the entity that donated the turkeys for the town to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Michael Engel, Vice President of Local 274 Firefighter’s Union, said that “we have been donating turkeys, very early on, to members of the community and we are trying to donate what we put in the most. This is the first time we have carried out this program and also for this Christmas we will deliver gifts in the hospitals of the city and for the children we will do it through the public schools of White Plains”.

Due to the frigid temperatures, many of those who had signed up to pick up their turkey did not make it to the White Plains Fire Station, located between Maple Avenue and Mamaroneck Ave. An average of 30 percent of people did not show up. .

Prior to this event, the Centro Hispano delivered winter coats and clothing, during its regular food delivery, the previous Thursday, at Post Rd. School Elementary School.

Likewise, this is the season in which the Hispanic Center and its team are making preparations for their annual Three Kings Day party, scheduled for January 2023.

“It will be a special event because we are celebrating 50 years of service to the community. We will have as one of the kings the mayor of the city of White Plains, Tom Roach. We will have special gifts for the children and we hope that, in January, many children will come to this traditional festival”, said Isabel Villar, who is currently with her team remodeling the building on Central Avenue, where its new headquarters will be.

“There we will have larger offices, and it will be our own headquarters. We will be able to offer the usual courses plus new programs that benefit our community,” said Villar.
