White Plains
The City of White Plains received $400,000 from the federal Safe Streets and Highways for All program to prepare the White Plains Safe Streets Action Plan that will provide for an integrated mobility system that includes motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.
The Plan will improve the safety of the City’s highways regardless of mode of transportation and will prioritize climate resiliency, sustainability, and economic viability.
The funds come at a critical time when the City is undergoing significant investment in multi-family and transit-oriented development that will increase the number of new White Plains residents.
City officials are committed to rethinking mobility and developing and implementing meaningful projects that respect pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike with the goal of lowering overall carbon dioxide emissions and energizing city roads.
Once the Action Plan is completed and approved, the City will be able to access additional federal funds through this federal program for clean and sustainable mobility projects that will improve the quality of life for residents.
“The Common Council and I look forward to developing the White Plains Safe Streets Action Plan with the community. Will consider electric and alternative vehicles; bikes; walkability and accessibility improvements while ensuring the sustainability and safety of our roads,” said White Plains Mayor Tom Roach.
Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program The Bipartisan Infrastructure Act (BIL) established the new discretionary Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program with $5 billion in funding allocated over the next 5 years to prevent deaths and Serious injuries on the roads.
